Your Trends Tell the Real Story
“One reading is a data point. A pattern is a story. Let’s read yours.”
The experts don’t obsess over one reading — they watch trends over time.
Three questions to ask yourself:
1. What direction is my number moving? (Up / Down / Stable)
2. How does this compare to my baseline?
3. What phase of the program am I in?
Start → 95 mg/dL
24h → 82 mg/dL
48h → 70 mg/dL
Your body is transitioning smoothly to fat burning.
Start → 108 mg/dL
24h → 100 mg/dL
48h → 92 mg/dL
Still declining — just slower. Common with insulin resistance. Keep going.
Evening → 75 mg/dL
Morning → 95 mg/dL (then drops)
Cortisol release. Normal. Watch the trend AFTER waking.
Start → 100 mg/dL
24h → 110 mg/dL
48h → 118 mg/dL
Unusual. Could be a stress response. Worth discussing with your care team.
| Pattern | Early in FLOA | Later in FLOA |
|---|---|---|
| Glucose drops slowly | Very common — IR is fighting back | Should be improving |
| Ketones rise slowly | Expected — flexibility building | May need adjustment |
| Morning glucose 95-105 | Normal — healing takes time | Should trend lower |
| Post-meal spikes to 160+ | Part of why you’re here | Should improve |
| Phase | Track Ketones? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| RESET | ❌ Not yet | Still eating carbs — no ketones expected |
| ADAPTATION | 🔶 Optional | Starting to appear as carbs drop |
| THERAPEUTIC | ✅ Yes | Confirms fat adaptation during fasts |
| MAINTENANCE | 🔶 During fasts | Spot-check during monthly fasts |
Start → 0.3 mmol/L
24h → 1.2 mmol/L
48h → 2.5 mmol/L
Beautiful fat adaptation in progress.
Start → 0.2 mmol/L
24h → 0.5 mmol/L
48h → 0.9 mmol/L
Slower — but still rising. This improves over time.
Start → 0.8 mmol/L
24h → 2.0 mmol/L
48h → 3.2 mmol/L
Fast rise — you’re metabolically flexible now.
Glucose Ketone Index (GKI) = (Glucose in mg/dL ÷ 18) ÷ Ketones in mmol/L
This ratio shows how well you’re balancing fuel sources.
| GKI | Meaning |
|---|---|
| >9 | Light ketosis — early stages |
| 6-9 | Moderate — active fat burning |
| 3-6 | Deep — therapeutic zone |
| 1-3 | Very deep — extended fasting |
Example:
Glucose: 72 mg/dL | Ketones: 2.4 mmol/L
GKI = (72 ÷ 18) ÷ 2.4 = 1.7
→ Deep therapeutic ketosis ✅
| Phase | GKI Expectation |
|---|---|
| RESET | No tracking — won’t have meaningful ketones yet |
| ADAPTATION | May be >9 at first. That’s okay. |
| THERAPEUTIC | Aim for 3-6 by end of 48-hour fasts |
| MAINTENANCE | Drops into therapeutic range during monthly fasts |
Testing Tips:
• Test glucose AND ketones at the same time for accurate GKI
• Morning fasted reading = best baseline comparison
• During fasts: test at 24h and 48h marks
• Don’t over-test — patterns matter more than constant checking
• Keep a simple log: Date | Time | Glucose | Ketones | GKI | How I Feel
