Revolutionizing Metabolic Health: Cutting-Edge Diet Strategies & the Game-Changing Role of GLP-1s in Wellness | Dr. Nick Norwitz, Holly Baxter, MS, Dr. Jones, DC

“Metabolic health isn’t just about weight loss—it’s the foundation for preventing chronic diseases and living a longer, healthier life.” – Dr. Nick Norwitz

Dr. Nick Norwitz is a leading expert in nutrition and metabolism, he is a researcher and MD candidate at Harvard with a PhD in human metabolism from Oxford. Holly Baxter is an accredited practicing dietician (APD), competitive bodybuilder, fitness and nutrition educator, and coach. In this episode, We explore insulin resistance, the role of different diets, and the importance of muscle in long-term wellness.

In this episode, Nick explains that metabolic health goes beyond weight loss. It’s about how our bodies regulate energy, blood sugar, and inflammation. Insulin resistance and poor dietary habits drive metabolic dysfunction, leading to conditions like obesity and diabetes.

Holly Baxter brings a different perspective, noting that extreme carb restriction may not be ideal for highly active individuals. She advocates for metabolic flexibility—the ability to use both carbs and fats for fuel—based on activity levels and personal health goals.

Both Nick and Holly emphasize the power of muscle in optimizing metabolism. Muscle tissue burns glucose efficiently and improves insulin sensitivity, making strength training a key strategy for preventing metabolic disease. Many people focus on diet but overlook the metabolic advantages of resistance training.

One of the biggest takeaways from our discussion is the danger of extreme diet dogma. Whether it’s keto vs. high-carb or carnivore vs. vegan, social media is flooded with oversimplified debates. Nick and Holly urge a more nuanced approach—one that respects individual differences and focuses on science rather than ideology.
